Tata Power-DDL Organizes Capacity Building and Training Program for Delegates of Ugandan Electricity Regulatory AuthorityDate : Apr 25, 2019

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), the pioneer in power distribution in India with an electricity user base of 7 million people in Delhi, organized a Capacity Building and Training Program for the delegates of Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uganda at its Learning Centre in New Delhi. During the 10 Day long training program, the delegates deliberated on developing the performance matrices for Ugandan Utilities and building a future roadmap for effective and efficient power distribution in country. The program also covered, delegates’ visits to Tata Power-DDL’s state-of-the-art Smart Grid Lab, Technology Centre – CENNET, Meter Testing Lab, Protection & Testing Lab, Smart Grid and GIS Center to get hands on experience of the demonstrated technologies.


The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is an apex government agency that regulates the power sector in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community. Uganda is aiming to increase its per capita electricity consumption with an ambitious plan to electrify the entire country by 2030, through various technical and operational reforms solving the distribution challenges.


Appreciating the training program, Ms. Judith, member ERA, said “Tata Power-DDL’s program has been extremely useful for us. The way Tata Power-DDL has brought down its AT&C losses over the years and the way it is automating its operations is a big learning for us. Overall it has been a good IT –OT integration case that we want to implement in Uganda.”

The institution has also recommended to replicate the model in other African countries like Jamaica and Kenya.
