Smart Grid Lab

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited is the frontrunner in implementing power distribution reforms in the capital city of India. The company continues to be acknowledged globally for deployment of cutting-edge technologies and its consumer-friendly practices.

The Smart Grid Lab was inaugurated on February 7, 2016 which added another milestone in the achievements of the company.

The inauguration of the lab was graced by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency Director, Ms. Leocadia I. Zak. The event also witnessed guests and dignitaries from the US Embassy, US AID, and Finnish Consulate as well as recognized members of the energy fraternity.

Purpose of the lab

The lab provides a test bed to showcase all of the information technologies and operational technologies implemented since 2002 (inception of the company) in the distribution area of Tata Power-DDL. The focus of these technologies is to provide improved connectivity, efficiency and effectively allowing reliability of a higher magnitude- that is both sustainable and scalable to our consumers. Till date, the company is instrumental in reduction of Aggregate Technical and Commercial Losses (AT&C) from 53% to 8.7%.

The lab provides a platform for other stakeholders to come and witness a decade-long achievement of Tata Power-DDL.

Tata Power-DDL’s technological journey since 2002 highlights a steady progression from AMR and GIS to advanced systems like ADMS and FFA, leading toward a smarter utility. Through continuous innovation and system upgrades, the company has successfully reduced AT&C losses from 50% in 2002 to just 8.88% by 2016, showcasing impactful transformation in power distribution efficiency.
