Tata Power-DDL summer peak demand touches 2012 MWDate : May 23, 2023


•  This is the season’s highest peak demand till date

•  Company expects peak demand to reach 2320 MW this Season

•  Discom has made adequate power arrangements of up to 2500 MW

Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power distribution company serving a populace of 7 million in the national capital, successfully met the record peak power demand of 2012 MW today. The Discom has made surplus arrangements of up to 2500 MW.

Ensuring smooth and uninterrupted electricity supply, Tata Power-DDL is using advanced techniques and avenues like bilateral agreements, reserve shutdowns, and power exchanges. In case of any unforeseeable contingency, the company will buy short-term power from the exchange. Adding to these efforts are the advanced load-forecasting statistical and modelling techniques that are helping the company forecast the power demand.

The company signed a first-of-its-kind PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) for 200 MW of hydropower supply on a medium-term agreement to meet the projected peak demand. Along with this, the company’s Battery Energy Storage Systems at Rohini and Rani Bagh will also support in providing continuous and reliable power to key consumers during any exigency in the summer months.

Mr. Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, said, "Our goal has always been to give our customers outstanding services. We expect our region's peak power demand this summer to be around 2320 MW. This season, we are focusing on renewable energy and making strong industry tie-ups to create green energy banks. Besides this, we are also using a mix of smart technologies for better load forecasting to provide reliable power supply."

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and load forecasting technology will enable our consumers to get through smoothly while any exigencies in real time are met through power exchange transactions.
