Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited Makes humongous stride in Electricity Theft Cases with 14 Court ConvictionsDate : Dec 11, 2023

In its quest to curb power theft, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), has achieved some major successes recently. The leading power utility service provider which caters to a populace of 7 million in North and Northwest Delhi, has secured convictions in 14 cases of power theft during the period April’23 – Nov’23. These cases cumulatively amount to more than INR 40 lakhs.

To put an end to the menace of power theft, Tata Power-DDL filed criminal cases against offenders in the Hon’ble Special Electricity Court, Rohini. Noticing the severity and merit of these cases, the Hon’ble Court has convicted 14 individuals in the period between April and November 2023, the most recent case being that of a resident of Sultanpuri, in Northwest Delhi. The individual was found indulging in the theft of electricity by tapping from LT ABC pole in Block-A-1 of Sultanpuri. Some E-Rickshaw owners have also been convicted by Hon’ble Special Electricity Court for power theft.

While the amount involved in these 14 cases is upward of INR 40 lakhs, the quantum of sentence in 4 cases is yet to be decided. In these 4 cases, the cumulative amount involved is more than INR 27 lakhs.
